Maybe it's me, but it seems that the site is getting slammed by people asking how much their freakin' coin is worth?

Newbies aside since we all start out as one...doesn't anybody ever do research anymore? Ever hear of Google? Today we have it soooooooooo easy as it wasn't too long ago when people HAD to go to the library for reseach.

Type in "Coin Prices" in a google search and you come out with 2,320,000 hits! Pick one!

I want to sell my coins...okay, find a buyer. If you wanted to sell anything, how would you go about finding any buyer? How about a little RESEARCH on your part?

Let's see...I have some coins and I want to sell them. How about finding those that are interested in coins? Hmmmm....makes sense to me!

    Sorry for the vent....

A lot of people, new to the forum, probably don't even know what the sticky threads are. Are they likely to read the tutorial, if they haven't even ventured to their library or discovered the magic of comparing the coin they have to the coins listed on ebay? I wouldn't think so.

There are a great many reasons, I bet, why come here with the age old question... some are brand new to the hobby, and don't even know how to research it yet - others have come across a coin, and aren't even interested in collecting, but they think it might be a valuable find.

In short - no. Nobody probably reads that thread before they post.

And some people know the best way to find an answer is to ask a knowledgable person. If I had a question about law, I wouldn't read law books - I would ask a lawyer. If I wanted to invest in stocks, I wouldn't read an online FAQ - I want to talk to a broker. That's an age old rule of thumb, I think.

My main interest is Canadian coins and I have lots of current reference material. One of the reasons I joined this forum wa to be able to share this information with others. I am very happy to look up values of Canadian coins for anyone who wants them. But that's just me.

    Calm down Ed, calm down.

A forum named "What's it Worth" is naturally going to attract the attention of people looking for coin values. Like Rick, Bromac4, and all of my fellow moderators, I have no problem helping Newbies, either by giving them the information or guiding them to it. And frankly, I don't think you do either, so relax my friend. :D

Well if you are around coins long enough you will hear the same questions hundreds of times for a hundred different people. This past weekend, I had two seperate people walk up to the table with 1943 copper cents. Of course both were coated with copper, but to them, their questions were just as important.
While we all have traveled down the simular road, each of us have taken new paths in our studies. For some, any question that is relatively simple in the mind would be considered silly or newbie like.
For my part, I appreciate the opportunity to provide the correct answers. Too often, dealers and well versed collectors keep their knowledge a secret.
