Welcome to CoinTalk. Can you post a pic of your piece? I can say with some certainty that it is not a US coin. It may be a coin from Great Britain but we would need to see a pic of it. On the other hand what you have may not be a coin at all; it may be a token or a medal. Post a pic if you can.
Sounds a little like a brass guinea gaming token from Britain, or maybe a Conder token, but pics would help us to determine what it is for sure. Ribbit Ps: Welcome to CoinTalk, Time. :hail:
It is a maverick, more along the lines of a counter piece - gaming piece that was created mid to late 19th century. Some of these were manufactured in Germany by Lauer.
1797 Great Britain 2 pence RARE coin I got a pic for you. I saw today a coin almost the same as mine the face was the same but the other side was a ship and not the same as mine is mine worth more or less this one went for 675.00 us dollars....I'm try in to put pic in this but not sure if it is workin might have to post another thread. Thanks for your help yesterday.
Hi again as in the other thread it is a George III spade gaming token you can pick them up for less than a dollar, just have a look on ebay. Many were made from brass and other base metals.
The reason the other one went for so much is it was made of gold and yours is made of brass. These were made to look like the gold guinea but are poker chips and are sold for a few dollars, depending on condition. Ribbit
Here's one for you to compare to: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200281874753&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010 It's the same date as yours. These come with various dates and are collectable but not worth a lot. Ribbit
