I use the wheat stalks and jaw separation to help decide if a Lincoln cent is Fine or Very Fine. I'm posting close-up images of the jaw and a wheat stalk. What do you think - F or VF? Thanks for the help.
Neither. You have an altered coin. Likely an altered 1944-D. Look at the spacing of the numbers in the date. This is not a genuine 1914-D.
Insider, I'm sure your motive with all this is the educate forum members, but please learn to take better pictures, with the right white balance, and post them in the threads full size. Thanks.
"Educate forum members" - are you kidding me? The posters here like Paddy54, and yourself (just to name two **) know more about coins than I ever will! Really sorry, no can do. Bad camera + bad technique is all I got. They blow up real good on my screen. Besides, sometimes all we have to make a call is a poor image on Ebay. I don't even know what white balance is but I'll look it up and give it a try. ** My apologies to Mike Diamond, Doug, and all the others I failed to mention.
Well then if your motive isn't to educate members, then I guess your motive is to trick people? Are you trying to amuse yourself?
It's a good coin to post. I'll bet some folks learned from it. Not everyone can spot an altered coin. I know I bought a few at a young age.
I had to break someone's bubble this week on this very date. Grandpa's Lincoln set had the same alteration in it.
For grading purposes F-15 on the obverse, the reverse is better VF-25. Looks cleaned, and I don't disagree with the alteration. But is there a theme here? Fake 3 leg Buffalo and now this? Just put in your thread title, that this coin is not what it appears.
FOR THOSE WHO MISSED THIS on another thread: GDJMSP posted this link: "Just a thought, but you might want to read this - http://www.criticalthinking.org/pages/socratic-teaching/606" Yes, I have lied about posting questions when I already knew the answer to what I was asking or trying to show. Now that my cover is blown I'm going to ask @C-B-D and any member reading this to decide what you would prefer: I learn that I have a fake coin. What do you prefer? 1. Post an image, say the coin is a counterfeit/altered, then tell why I think so...or 2. Post an image, make up a story like I'm thinking of buying this coin or that it belongs to my grandmother, ask for members to offer advice, then reveal the coin is fake and give reasons? That's the way I like to do it. I believe that is more helpful: Check out: ttps://www.cointalk.com/posts/2708195/
history has proven that you will do as you please regardless of what we prefer, which is totally ok... we just don't have to like it
mikenoodle posts: "History has proven that you will do as you please regardless of what we prefer, which is totally ok... we just don't have to like it." I usually do as I please; however, here we go again...I ask members for an honest opinion in post #16: "What do you prefer?" Mike posts the FIRST NON-ANSWER. More to come? Or...Pick option #1 or #2.
Since you asked, I will say this: It seems that the process with which you have posted these threads is proving to be unpopular with the members of the forum. I think it's getting to wear a little thin on them.
Thanks, that's more useful. That's one vote to quit starting this type of thread. Do I have two? Now, thanks to Mike, there are three choices: Do you prefer#1, #2, or #3 - No more threads like the OP.
