    Hey cointalk,
I have a Japanese 1981 (?) year 56 100 yen. I see some Woodie here, what are your opinions? Is it a true Improper alloy? image.jpg image.jpg

Yeah that's right. 100 Yens are made of copper/nickel alloy so the copper and nickel must not have been mixed properly. I hadn't seen any of those while I was there.

Oh yes and it is year 56 in the "Showa Period". Every time a new emperor comes in they reset the years to 0. Currently it is the "Heisei Period"

All credit goes to my grandpa who saved it when he lived in Japan!

Actually here's something interesting. I never knew I had this until today it's a wood grain 100 yen from the same year. It must have been a good year for these except mine is not as prominent.:D 007.JPG

I was stationed in Japan 91-94 and bought mint sets as well as have a tin full of coins from there. Now I need to find them!

Ok, leave me alone on the tins, it was dresser change!

Nice find, and I enjoyed just seeing it :)

When I lived there my dad was stationed in Sasebo. It was a nice place it was also nice that a lot of the people in that area spoke English because it was the business area. I still learned some Japanese to be kind and get around in those taxis.
