Hey cointalk, I have a Japanese 1981 (?) year 56 100 yen. I see some Woodie here, what are your opinions? Is it a true Improper alloy?
Yeah that's right. 100 Yens are made of copper/nickel alloy so the copper and nickel must not have been mixed properly. I hadn't seen any of those while I was there.
Oh yes and it is year 56 in the "Showa Period". Every time a new emperor comes in they reset the years to 0. Currently it is the "Heisei Period"
Actually here's something interesting. I never knew I had this until today it's a wood grain 100 yen from the same year. It must have been a good year for these except mine is not as prominent.
I was stationed in Japan 91-94 and bought mint sets as well as have a tin full of coins from there. Now I need to find them! Ok, leave me alone on the tins, it was dresser change! Nice find, and I enjoyed just seeing it
When I lived there my dad was stationed in Sasebo. It was a nice place it was also nice that a lot of the people in that area spoke English because it was the business area. I still learned some Japanese to be kind and get around in those taxis.
