I only did pennies up to yesterday which I bought 80 dollars worth of dimes and found 2 1964s so my question is do dimes or half dollars have more silver
Pre-64 half dollars: .36169 oz pure silver Pre-64 dimes: .07234 oz pure silver '65-70 Kennedy half dollars: .1479 oz pure silver
In my experience, I find more silver halves per number of coins searched than dimes. It may be different for others.
So, what you're asking is something like "where am I more likely to find silver, in dimes or in halves?" A couple of years ago, I would've said "halves" for sure. If you're looking for them in teller drawers or cash registers, it's probably still halves. From what I've heard, boxes and rolls of halves are mostly picked over at this point. Quarters seem to be the most picked over.
