I've seen that roll searching can be hard depending on where you live. I'm not sure if I want to get into it if I'm going to be skunked all the time. I live in a small upper class town. Lots of snobs here to be honest. I'm wondering if this is a good town to start in or should I get coins from a different town? What would be the idle town to get coins from?
There's one way to find out. Get a few boxes and search them... Unfortunately, I don't think there will be a night and day difference between any two communities since coins travel around. One thing I have noticed in my roll searching activities is that the four boxes of pennies that I picked up from two different banks in Kalispell, MT had a lot more Canadian pennies than I find down here in Bozeman, MT. Go figure...
Based on the little information you've provided, it would be impossible for anyone to gauge whether the town you live in would be prime for roll searching. Without your entire address, how about just say the name of the town, and state and perhaps an estimate of population along with number of banks and/or credit unions located say within a 5 mile radius of the center of town.
Depends on whether you are buying locally wrapped rolls or if you are getting Brinks boxes that could come from out of your area. I tend to prefer locally wrapped/customer wrapped rolls myself. I live in a part of the country with an older demographic for whom seemingly older coins are still worth spending and not keeping.
I've been to Montana maybe 4 times in my life, but uh isn't Kalispell like minutes from the Canadian-U.S. border compared to Bozeman?
I live in a retirement community of about 10,000. Not a lot of income here, mostly SS benefits. 2 banks within the community. Once a week I ask for customer wrapped rolls at each bank and they usually have 2 or 3 at each bank. I usually get 2 or 3 90% and 4 or 5 40%. About 3 years ago, I caught a roll of 20 Frankies. Dimes and quarters are good here, too. No large sized dollars, though.
Okay here's a tip: local Credit Unions (at least in my area) deal a lot in customer wrapped rolls. Bring in a dozen donuts, and good luck to you!
