I think I found a small date 1982 D penny, although it isn't in very good shape. What do you all think?
What's it weigh? And yea, that's a small date to my eyes. Nice gap between the bottom of the 2 and slim bottom line.
I wouldn't worry too much about finding a copper. You have the same chances to be struck by lightning and finding a winning lotto ticket.
And for fun I looked it up in the red book that showed up today (2019), 1982-D Small Date copper isn't even listed. Now that's rare!
Lol well at least I can tell the difference between the large and small dates. 2 months ago, I couldn't even see the difference.
What? Maybe it's not rare then. I don't know. But I've been looking and found a 1982 copper small date, not the D mint mark, though. Mmmm.
Think you got it nailed. I am still hoping to one day be able to tell the difference between the 1974 large and small. I could probably tell uncirculated, but all of the circulated ones I have found, I may as well just flip a coin.
Based on what I have read, not many people care about it because the design difference is so minimal. I completely ignore the 1974s and just throw them into my bucket full of coppers.
.01 cent. There's only 1 1982-D small date copper. Out of 17 billion cents made that year between Philly and Denver, large date or small date, copper or zinc there is only 1 single 1982-D small date copper coin. Will another one be discovered one day? Possibly. Should you be looking for it? No. If one turns up the odds are it's going to be someone else who finds it. The odds are astronomical. There's tons of cool things to collect and study and learn in this hobby. But recently, people (not just you) seem fixated with this 1982-D small date copper. It's not like there are a thousand of them, or a handful of them. There is 1. And it has been found. And so far a 2nd one has not been found in over 35 years.
This is for Ty Just looked at the website for the 1974 Small vs. Large date. You're right, I can't really tell the difference. Something else for me to learn.
You only need to learn it if you want to. the info is on a web site to be looked up when it is needed.
