I know this Penny is in very bad shape, but: 2009 Penny that is extremely smooth, weight is 2.4, split horizontal line on reverse. See photos. I don't know what the top depicts? I've not seen it on my other penny's OR, I could be having a senior moment!? Ya'll probably see these all the time so would you help a girl out!? Thank you in advance.
Sorry, it's a damaged coin, and not an error of any kind. Looks like the obv. was scraped against something. PMD
okay so the full horizonal line on reverse is normal as is the 1809 date? what is that building. not on any of my other 2009 penny reverses?
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth and the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Cent, the Mint issued four special Cents in 2009, each showing a different phase of Lincoln's life. The official names for the types, in order of issuance, were: Birth and Early Childhood in Kentucky Formative Years in Indiana Professional Life in Illinois Presidency in Washington, DC Circulation strikes were made of copper-plated zinc; those included as part of special collector sets sold by the government were made of the same bronze composition as the pre-1982 Bronze Cents.
As you can see by my toned coin the split you see on your damaged coin is where the log cabin sits on grass. The view is from ground level so it looks split but it’s not.
