I am really new to this field and ...
this is my little currency collection ...

    http://www.mindstar.com/currency/

I built this web site for display screens of 1600 pixels (or more) width.
Sorry if your display is narrower (you will have to scroll a bit).

Roll your mouse over the little icons on the left to load the reverse.
Click on the little icons to load a zoomed image of that side.

    This was fun to build!
Feedback on ways to improve this are welcome.

Has anyone else built a web site to display their currency collection?

Very nice collection and the website is terrific. I especially like the way you switch to the back of the bill by moving the mouse.

That's really a stunning set of banknotes, and well displayed, too! My collection is in my sig below if you want to check it out.

A couple comments on the site:
    - You state that all notes are actual size. Realistically you have no way of knowing how big the notes are displayed on my monitor, so that's not a correct statement.
    - Regarding color, yes we may all have monitors with different color rendition. The best way you can handle this is to make sure your own monitor is calibrated correctly, and that when you visualize the notes on your monitor they are as close to correct as possible. Then (with a huge amount of luck) if your customers are viewing the notes with calibrated monitors and software that recognizes and compensates for the color maps (huge *if* there), then all should work. But the bottom line is of course that once it leaves your hands and ends up on your web site, you have no control over your customer's monitor settings.

thank you brian and art for the feedback!

dave, good comments. i never thought about the size issue. would the issue just be between mac's and pc's where mac's display images at 72 dpi and pc's display at 96 dpi? At least on my pc the notes are very close to actual size (if i hold a bill up to the screen image ... it's very close (within a few percent at least) ... certainly the ratio shown of large to small currency would be right ... also good comments on the color ... i was surprised how different my 2 monitors were (they sit side by side), so i spent some time using adobe gamma to adjust the older monitor (a 22" lcd bought in 2003) to more closely match the newer monitor (a 24" imac running windows xp) ... otherwise i would have driven myself nuts trying to adjust to some middle ground.

The size thing is just a matter of the dpi of the monitor you buy, not mac vs. pc. If I use an older monitor, it's likely 72dpi. Newer ones are getting better and better, I think most good quality new monitors are closer to 120dpi if they are run in full resolution mode. So while "actual size" could be right on your monitor, and you could say something like "if you have a 96dpi monitor, then these are actual size", I'm not sure it's worth trying to explain it all. Fundamentally they will not be actual size on many monitors.

    thanks krispy!

i just bought a 1775 $5 continental currency note last night ... it's listed 2nd from the bottom ... that's my first note from that early era.

actually ... i take that back ... the new 1775 note is now listed at the top ...

i think it made more sense to order these in (near) chronological order ...
so i changed the order a bit
