I can't match up the die cracks on the coin with any of the coins in the die crack guide. Does anyone know which VAM is the coin? I thought perhaps it was VAM JOH-23 near the bottom of the page since the die cracks are very similar around the date but they are not exactly alike.

There aren't that many VAM's that are based on die cracks. Perhaps John Baumgart @messydesk can identify it for you.

The 21D has quite a few coins with die cracks, and many different die stages to each. Does it have any die clashes or doubling?

It looks like a match to the cracks on JOH-23 to me. You may have a slightly different die stage than the one that was illustrated. The JOH numbers were assigned by Rob Joyce and Jim Hart when first putting the "Fun with 21" book together in 2003. These were coins that didn't have anything significant enough for an official VAM listing, but they wanted to catalog them. Since then, most of those listings have been converted to VAM listings, but it would seem that this one hasn't.

A couple things made me wonder if this is a JOH-23. One is the die crack going down from the M in UNUM seems to be coming down from further inside the M then on the one shown in the die crack guide on VAM World. The other one is on the coin here there appears to be a die crack going over the second D in UNITED and going up into the denticles but on the coin in the die crack guide there isn't one shown going up.

If the die cracks on yours are more advanced than those illustrated, then the one used for the illustration was a slightly earlier die stage.
