Found this 2014 Great Smokey Mountains quarter with P mintmark almost completely polished away. Coin is MS 60 and shows only faint trace of 'P' mintmark. Anybody seen this yet ?

I have one of the new hampshire state quarters with a missing mintmark. Just grease filled dies. These ones havent caught on like the 22 no D cent yet ;)

It could be the result of a grease-filled die or it could be surface damage, but without a good close-up of the area, it's hard for me to tell.

Doesn't look like it's been whizzed away.

No, but note how the surface color is slightly different from left to right. Also, notice that the letters "WE" & "ST" of IGWT are thinner than normal. This suggests that some build-up of grease may have caused this. If so, it could also have affected the mintmark and made it very easy for a surface abrasion to remove it.

Of course, the simplest answer is usually the best, so it could very well be wholly due to a grease-filled die.
