Is it just me or do most of the coins out there, that have a bust, the face is always looking left? Exceptions that I know of are the Sac dollar, the lincoln cent and the new John Adams dollar.

Sadly I noticed this while watching the 3 different shop at home coin shows avalible on Directv tonight...

    Is this an evil plot?

Many of the really early coins (flowing hair, draped bust, ect...) have the bust facing the other direction...but for the most part, I think your right. I don't know if there is a reason for this or if it is just that engravers copied that aspect from a previous coin into their design.

Hmm, Lincoln (on the penny) looks right, and so does ... ahem ... Susan B. Anthony. Also, Jefferson on the Westward Journey nickels (OK, not really a bust) looks to the right.

Left does seem to be the preference, though there are a few exceptions, as Chrisild pointed out.

It is quite odd. Even when the bust on the coins alternates with each monarch, as on GB coinage, there always is more left then right....!!!!
