I've posted from time to time about BIN bargains I've found by camping on the new listings. There's been a lot of life happening over the past year or two, and I haven't had time for that part of the hobby, but I tried again this weekend. It looks like it's still worthwhile if you've got the time and patience. Case 1: 1984 US Mint Olympic Gold and Silver Commemorative One Dollar Coins-4 sets $160 The title's certainly confusing, and the BIN price of $180 doesn't match, but what was offered was a total of one $5 gold Olympic commem and six silver dollar commems -- at least $380 melt value, for $180. I saw it and clicked on it on it one minute after someone else bought it. Case 2: LOT OF 33 BARBER DIMESS 90% SILVER CIRCULATED 1896 - 1916 33 well-worn Barber dimes for $39 shipped -- meh, they're light, so it's probably not really below melt, but worth a look. Hang on, is that an S on the reverse of that 1896? By golly, I believe it is! And the coin looks to be a solid Good, with full rims and no obvious damage. This one didn't go quite as quickly, so I had time to snag it. Nothing else noteworthy this weekend, but enough to whet my appetite for more...
When I worked at a tech company in San Diego, we used to go dumpster diving in the industrial park we were located in. One guy found a 5 lb silver electrode from an electroplating company.
I don't look at new listings very often, preferring instead to look at those ending first. But your post inspired me to look at the BIN German listings and I found an MS65 old Prussian coin recently listed at what I found was a really good price. Thanks for the prompt.
