Hey, I was wondering if you could post some dipped Indian cents for me to take a look at. From the ones that I think are dipped, do they have this whitish glaze on them? Thanks
Whitish glaze? Doesn't sound familiar. Perhaps your coins are coated in something. Most dipped Indian cents I've seen have an unmistakable brightness for their level of wear. In other words, a coin shouldn't look "shiny" unless it has a high MS grade. Even then, the luster should be cartwheel, not flat.
A whitish glaze is most often a sign of dip residue when a coin is not dipped properly. It could also be shelac or lacquer on the coins.
I guess I should say it has a whitish haze. That's why I think it has been dipped or someone took a swab and rubbed it with jw. The rim doesn't have that look, looked like it was in an album has the rim has the brown toning.
As noted here. Also, be carefull that it is not something you wouldn't want on your hands or face or anywhere.
Here ya go! This coin turned after about a year. Looked brown before it now you can see some of the greenish blueish color - on the third left side of coin.
Well I am not sure either - but this coin has definetly been dipped or coated with something. It has this oily sheen with definetly weird unnatural colors. The details are nice on the coin, but the coin itself is toast in my opinion.
