How do you recognize dipped coins? Are there tell-tale signs that are a giveaway that a coin has been dipped?

If anyone knows of a site with before/after pictures of dipped coins, that would be very helpful.

Easy, use your ability to reason. If a coin has been dipped properly, you can't tell except by using reasoning.

All coins tone - period. So if you see a coin like a Morgan dollar say, and it's not toned - then it has almost certainly been dipped.

An improperly dipped coin is much easier to recognize because it will look dull and lifeless, a washed out grey color, and have very little or no luster.

I see lots of Morgans in GSA holders that are not toned. Are you saying that the GSA dipped all of these coins before sealing them up in the holders?

It is beleived that as much as 80% of all raw coins have been cleaned as some point. But I myself have no problems owning a cleaned coin as long as its been cleaned right and for the right reasons.

Being a relative newcomer to the hobby, it would be helpful to see pictures of coins that have been cleaned improperly, dipped, etc. If anyone knows of a site that has this, please let me know.

You only think they aren't toned. Toning has an infinite number of degrees. If you placed one of those coins to one that was freshly minted - you'd see the difference immediately.
