Saturday morning: Picked up my sixth $1000-dime bag for the year from my local branch, plus 4-boxes of dimes from various other banks. Finished the bag last night, resulting in 8-silvers, of: 6-Rosie's, 1-1943-D Merc, 1-1957 Can. Numbers are equiv to 2 per box avg, which is a lot better than the 1.2/avg per box that I'm running for the year. Will go through the 4-boxes and see if they produce better than the bag did. Will post results later.
When I had a bank that had a municipal transport customer they would bag the coins in the $1000 bags and I would average about 9 silvers per bag. The bus company went to another institution that sends them to the big city now. For all I know their coin counters kick out silver anyway so useless.
Banks around here are happy to give up the Dimes and Quarters, but Halves are like pulling teeth to get them from most banks.
Believe me, it was a task trying to carry that bag. It's equiv to 4-boxes, trying to carry all at once. But it was worth it. Next week I will be topping off the half dollar bag that has been on the machine since last Oct-Nov. Should be interesting what I find. The teller (who is also the vault custodian) will not let it out of her sight, just for me.
DozerD - It's nice when the vault custodian saves bagged half dollars for you. Where I live, these bags usually take months to fill and if you rely on luck, somebody will likely beat you to the bag when it is full. Am going through a $1000 bag I bought Friday and finding a good many silvers. Will start a new thread in a few days when I am finished.
Picked up 5-rolls of halves today, now I have enough to TOP OFF the half dollar bag. Going to try and get there by Friday & cross my fingers for silvers.
