I found this coin in my change the other day. It's got a very thick rim and the coin is slightly larger in diameter from a normal coin and is thinner. My first guess was that someone flattened the rim out... but the rest of the coin is fine looking and the rim, for an exception on the reverse, is uniformly flat... so not sure. Figured I'd leave it up to the pros :high5:
very weird looking! someone had way to much time on their hands... the reverse does look like it was imprinted weird too ... but that might be the effect of having the rim 'hammered' upon...
You know what I'd do? Put it for sale on ebay without saying anything about it or making any claims about it, other than that is the coin they'll receive. Never know what someone will bid!
For Sale: Untouched, unsearched (by seller), rare! Rare! RARE! Only one known, do a search of the internet. Very unusual coin! Owned previously be a liittle old lady, we are assigned to liquidate her estate. She died at the age of 425 years. Yup, she was OLD! So, she had the coin in a box for over 300 years (and no one was ever allowed to look at it). Family heirloom, treasure! Your gain is my loss. Bid high, bid often! Don't let another bidder get this treasure. (Reserve of .10 not met).
I found a dime just like that one except the rim was missing on both sides. I actully did put it on ebay with no claims as to what it was other than " dime with no rim" It sold for a whopping .20 SOme of the stuff people do to coins is really funny. There has got to be people who collect tampered coins. I would love to see those collections!
