Dime error? Guessing it is post-mint...

Has anyone ever seen a dime that shows nothing but copper around the rim, is thinner than the rest and has a circumference just smaller than a regular dime? I found one last night in a roll... Looked like a normal dime, except there was no rim around the edges, still had the clad front and back, but you only saw copper around the rim...

Is it possible it was a dime that had the wrong planchet? The rim edge was smooth, no reeded edge like the other dimes... I suspect someone did something to this coin, but if they did, they hid their work pretty nicely.

What are the possibilities? I will see if I can get a picture of it in the next few days, but my pictures haev neever turned out well for coins...

    Thanks!

Sounds like it was dipped in acid.

Not if the edge is smooth, the rim missing, and smaller in diameter/circumference. Its had its edge ground off. If it was just acid the reeded edge would still be present.

Agreed. But maybe the edge was ground off afterward. At any rate, the description outlines a dubious-sounding coin.
