    Is this whats called a clipped planchet?

    You would have to show the rev and obv also, but I would say that its probably damage. someone scratched the edge off.

    Hi, It looks like after mint damage to me too. I see a lot of coins that were held up to a grinding wheel a long time ago that after circulation look like this. Take a look at the edge of the coin directly opposite the "clipped" area. If the edge bulges a little , it could be real. If not, it is a "dud" :)
