Ok, incorrect tense. Should have been DUG this !915 Buffalo nickel while metal detecting last week. Used a toothpick to knock off some of the caked on dirt. Would have cleaned it more but I feared giving some of the members here severe heart palpitations over the idea of cleaning a coin. Still it’s the prettiest Buff I’ve ever harvested and while I’ve never asked this before I was curious about how some of your well trained eyes would judge it’s merits (if any). So wondering how you might grade or value it.
Has pretty severe environmental damage and toothpick damage now. Might have been dropped in fine condition. Still a neat find. If it wasn't corroded and scratched it would be worth about $10. It used to look like this:
I'm not as picky. To me it is a 1915 Buffalo Nickel. A coin that had to work for a living. Well worth its place in our society. I would do some more gentle work on it.
Looks like that Buffalo took some buckshot from a scatter gun. Nice find. I’m with @Inspector43 in that some more gentle work would be good. Perhaps a bath.
Usually a "dug one" would be too far gone. Yours still shows the date and the moto on the reverse. Good digs !
