I was looking through some mercury dimes, s mint marks, and for the same year I noticed that some mint marks are bigger than others. Is this normal? I can post some pics if neccessary.

yeah ive found alot of different sized S mint marks in the 40's and some in the 30's. all i got to say is that i hope they arent rare or expensive as ive traded so many.

the only ones i read about is the 1945 s .

Yes it is normal. Back then mint marks were still punched into the dies by hand. And as the punch wore out, a new one was used. As may be expected, they were not all identical.

    Hi,
I am not versed in all the varieities on Mintmarks on Winged Liberty Head Dimes, but there are some small and large mintmark varieties some of which are very scarce.
I can't tell you which ones though.

I think the most known is the Micro S on 1945....its smaller and I have one but its hard to tell without them side by side.
