Different Size Letters on 'Liberty'

    What causes the size difference? Strike pressure? Looks like Deterioration also, but wouldn't this cause the letters to be bigger?

    First off it is a late die state. wich means as the die got older it also got some polishing. The polishing can remove some of the relief in the devices.

    That which P&G said, and also grease and dirt in the dies can cause this effect.

    Is this an error then? I have one from 1984 thats doing the same thing.

    Struck from worn/overused dies - not an error.
