I have been finding some Lincolns that are more yellowish and not the rosy color. Two coins are 1983d, right lower is the yellow, the top is the normal color and the left is a 1994 copper color. I had to forgo the clear pics to get the correct color. Did the mints make a variety that has a different copper tin ratio?
More than anything else, the color of the coins is determined by what they come into contact with, not what they are made of.
That's just the cool thing about copper....the colors are amazing. While there can be slight differences in composition, the colors are primarily defined by their storage conditions, like Doug said.
Check out the 103 Days of Lincoln Cents thread... the rainbow of colours being showcased there is incredible... I don't collect that series, but I find myself checking that thread daily, for a dose of eye-candy...
