The most noticeable difference is the lettering on the reverse. Type 1 shows a broad flat lettering style around while the type 2 exhibits much narrower text with the high points of the letters more rounded. Type 1 has fat lettering, Type 2 has thin lettering. There are other subtle differences, but this will let you easily identify which is which. The Type 1 style was produced throughout 1975 and the Type 2 during 1976. You will find both types on regular P and D mint issues, clad proofs, and the silver BU and Proof issues all exhibit the Type 1 style lettering.
Type 1 is on the right. If you took the left one away, Type 1 would be all that's left, right? Right! Or. if you left only the one on the right, it would not only be the only one left, it would be the right one out of the ones that were left. That is, if you left the right one.
