am I correct in calling this a die fill? I am new to error coins so any help is appreciated. The coin has lots of what looks like scratches but it looks like it was part of the die, I had read that they try to smooth out the die clashes and thats what it looks like and I know its hard to see in the photos and sorry about the slight out of focus and brightness problems the coin is very bright and was very hard to photograph. What rockdude says below me....

I thought you were referring to the center of the bowtie. It looked like a die chip in your pic, but I was wrong.

It could be a struck through or over polished die.

It's a case of overzealous intentional die abrasion. 1972-D and 1974-D cents are notorious for this.

Over polished dies. It is not from grease filling. Grease would fill the deepest recesses of the die and the highest relief area. in other words the tip of the bust would disappear before that low relief area would. If the grease happened to be sitting on that low relief area when the coin was struck the metal would have just pushed the grease down into the high relief area and the low relief would still strike up.

Over Polished dies makes sense as there are a ton of what looks like very fine scratches is there any value here? Its missing a lot of the vest

Have any of you noticed, that the new 2011 cents, look as if Lincoln has a cow head with horns at the top of Lincoln's head. :hail:
The coin here, looks as if it may have been polished out, may be from tooling out a die clash.:smile
