I'm not good with these but I'll give it a try, based on the overlay it appears to be from Lincolns jacket. The nose would be at the bottom right of the memorial if it was.
If it were a die clash, wouldn't the nose be in one of the right-side bays? It would also be inverted, right? I'm no expert, just looking at a penny and using my imagination
Here's your two images overlain on each other. It doesn't perfectly align with anything, but if it did come from a die clash, then I'd say the shape correlates to the indentation under the hair on the back of Lincoln's neck.
Agreed, the clash overlay that I found was for a specific coin.Apparently Google doesn't understand the word basic.
I agree the placement is wrong - but if the clash was off centered maybe it could be possible? That overlay is really cool, I assume you need some sort of special software to do that.
Thanks, don't know why the nose would be so far off, unless the clash was way off set. Probably not the nose, but I don't know what else it would be.
Just Microsoft word. It's a bit tricky because you have to paste the image into an object (like a square shape that you've drawn) to enable the transparency option. But after that, it's just a matter of scrolling the transparency up or down and aligning the images.
Mis alignments and rotated dies, even tilted die faces can move the clash. This looks completely normal.
