Back in 95 the mint offered this set with or without the Silver Eagle.
Those that ordered only the gold must have kicked them self.

I'm sure some people here got this set. I had just left the hobby at the time so I never even thought about it. Really sad to see an opportunity like that go by. Not even factoring in the coveted silver dollar, 999.00 for the 4 coin gold set never looked so cheap. That was only 13 years ago? Can we expect 4,000 in another 13 years? Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Well I did not order either - would love to have a 1995W but will have to pass for now. I have other things I want to accomplish first.

I wasn't really collecting yet...I didn't start until the later 1990s. It wouldn't have mattered though, I was too young and wouldn't have had the extra money. I didn't even have the extra money when the 20th anniversary ASE came out in 2006...stupid college budget. :headbang:

The price for that set hit $4000 quite a few years ago. They are selling for $5000 - $6000 now.

I meant for a typical new 4 coin gold set 13 years from now.

When these came out, many Silver Eagle collectors got really ticked off.
It took $999 to keep their sets complete. Some bought the set and sold the gold. Some of these sets have been sold with the wrong proof in the hole to folks that didn't know it should have the W mint mark.
Here is the rest of the mint mail out.
