Well I'd say it is just a real beat up nickel if it wasn't for the edge of the rim being there at the top. I'm having a hard time imagining how the upper edge of the coin could get worn away and leave that pprtion of the rim still there. So - maybe it did happen at the mint. But if it did - I don't know what did it
This coin is so badly battered that, if there was an authentic error present, you can no longer tell. There's a chance it could have started out as a broadstrike.
