Okay, I am probably one of the newest collectors here and I don't really know what to go so I have only been buying PCGS graded coins. I bought this coin on Ebay and it is suppose to be a PR69DCAM but it seems that the strike is weak on the ST in TRUST and IN GOD. Also I see a scratch in front of Tommy's nose. Is this REALLY a PCGS PR69DCAM?? Sorry about the crappy photo quality.
Here is another that I did on my scanner at 600 DPI. Can't see the scratch as much (it shows up better at an angle) but the weak strike shows up very well.
I guess I am screwed. I asked the seller on ebay if they would replace the coin and here is the reply: In a message dated 9/30/2005 12:11:48 PM Central Standard Time, member@ebay.com writes: Hi, I just recieve the coin. There seems to be a scratch in on the coin in front of the nose. You can see a photo of it here. http://linson.us/numismatics/PCSG/scrated2004pcgspr69dcam2.jpg Can I return it for a replacement? Bert, We do not take returns on graded coins, we sell and advertise the coins as they are graded by PCGS. Shirley ____________________________________________________________________ Here is the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8334624837&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1 And and the seller is: seylevel If anyone sees and is about to bid on one of these auctions from seylevel just know that she has a NO RETURN policy on graded coins.
in the auction it looks like different letters then what show in your photo are week. in the auction, the word GOD looks fine, but IN the letters ST in trust and some letters in LIBERTY look week. Not a very closeup shot of either the Obverse or Reverse in that auction... maybe trying to hide something??? Is it possibly an illusion? since it looks like different letters are weak at different angles?
...sorry - i didnt see this the first time looking at your auction ... ...The coin in the picture isn't the actual coin number but it will be the exact style holder and coin. .....
What I really want to know is if this is really looks like a PCGS PR69DCAM. Yes it is in a PCGS slab and I do believe that it is graded by PCGS but if this is what I can expect from PCGS I am not so sure that I am impressed with their grading. Am I wrong?
PCGS is not the best IMO...all grading Co's. mess up and this I would say is one of them... As for the no return on the graded coins...I don't see anything wrong with that...in fact if that was me I would be likely to do the same thing...as long as there were good photos and a good write up about it... If the nick is on the coin and not the slab then I would say it is not a PF69 at all...I don't know but you might be able to send it back to PCGS---some Co's. give some $$ if it is graded lower.
