Hi. Just a question: Justinian’s coins around his regnal year 12-13 were indeed big in size. Gradually the size of his coins decreased afterwards. I am wondering: Was a bigger follis (“B” in image) more worth than a normal sized follis (“E” in image)? As you can see Justinian's (B) is bigger than Phocas', but they both have “M”. In case one can provide the answer: Thank you.
I've often wondered the same thing (the same goes for Constantine IV's larger coins), but I guess it will remain a mystery.
