    yes they have

Yes they have been in circulation. In fact if you look hard enough, like at your bank, you might be able to find some. These coins are still hoarded today in large numbers. Billions of SBA's are out there. In fact "sackies" are are hoarded also, and a lot of people think there gold

When I worked at an amusement park, we were given rolls of SBAs. For every dollar we made, we dropped a SBA into a box. If we ran out of $1 bills, we gave the SBAs out as change. I got sick & tired of the buggers.

Also, the vending machines here at work take SACs and SBAs, and the change machine dispenses them. With Ikes, I know my grandfather preferred them to bills, so he would get them from the bank. So yes, they do get circulated. I would even say that they get circulated more than halves.

I am not sure that I have EVER received a SBA in change, or ANY type of silver dollar.

I got SACs from walmart in change in 2000. I have spent a few nasty looking ones I owned.

Over the years I pulled over 700 Ike dollars out of circulation - All they were good for was wearing holes in you pants pockets. TOO BIG, TOO UGLY Every one I got is still laying in the bottom of my safe. OOPS is that hoarding? Their keeping the $1400 worth of SBAs company. If they never go up in value, its still $2100 ready cash.

I may be too old to remember clearly what I had for breakfast, but I do recall routinely using Ikes as money, unlike SBAs and Sackies, which are generally seen only as change from Post Office vending machines.

I bought some rolls of halves and dollar coins at the bank a few weeks ago. The teller handed me a Bicentennial Ike and asked me if I wanted it. I did, so I gave her a dollar for it. It was a nice AU.

Soooo, Ron is the reason I have never received a silver dollar as change!

Ron, why do you hoard them if they are not worth anything?

I suppose that if the United States ever issued another gold coin, I would never see one. Maybe a quarter-sized coin with a face value of $10,000 would survive a while? Oh well, I would never see one of those either. :headbang:

If you ask me - I'D say Morgan and Peace Dollars grading good or VG are probably rarer than grades XF through Unc. I suspect dollar coins haven't ever really circulated well - with exception being in slot machines.

The 7-11 I go to almost always has SBA's in the till.I used to ask for them but eventually spent them all.My coin dealer gives out beat-up Ikes but that really doesn't count except that they're all VERY circulated.

I spend susies, sacs and halves all the time. Just today we ran through about $25 worth in the shop...bought lunch with them and later some snacks.
Ikes are different. I keep them and sell them for about $1.25 each, ave. circ. About 3 or 4 times per year someone will pass thru and buy all I have, so when I get them I just set them aside in a tub or bucket or box.

Say what you want about the ugly Ikes, but at a coin show yesterday I saw them going for anywhere from $1.35 to 1.75 each in circulated grades.

I still pick them up occasionally at banks, last year at a very small local bank in California I managed to get four rolls of Ikes, all had been there for a while. I most recently bought two over the counter at my bank about 2-3 weeks ago.

You get them from MTA vending machings in NYC. In fact, the dollar coins have some decent circulation because of that. I've been known to ask for them when I see them in a cash draw.

A year or so ago I went to the bank to get some halves. The teller asked if I wanted any Ikes. I said I'd take what she had. She had about $200. She said some old man had brought them in a few days before. She was SO thankful for me taking them, so she wouldn't have to count them anymore. I've spent some, but still have a bunch. I guess they moved from some old mans hoard to my hoard.

If they're worth more than face, I'd like to get rid of them, but I don't want to go through the hassel of ebay for $.25 over face.

I just went through tonight and cleaned out more hoard of SBAs. I had almost $40 in 1999D's. I have no idea why.

I know that Sacs circulate at my house. The tooth fairy brings one shiney gold dollar per tooth. I have had to make some 11:00 PM runs to a stamp machine when I run out.
