I have a strong interest in older U.S. Dollar coins, but don't have the finances necessary to buy them so I figured I'd try to find a few good low price replicas. I found a few nice examples like those from the Gallery Mint museum, but they were like $30 each which still seemed high. Then I saw this auction and went ahead and put a bid on it, and won it for 1 cent plus $4 shipping. Did I get a good deal or am I missing something? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170165181079&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=007
There isn't a copy stamp on it which states that it's a copy or such. That technically would mean that it's illegal but oh well. The thing is, there is a split between collectors who don't really care much about replicas and those who really do. I would prefer to get original ones, even if they are damaged but if they are totally outrageously expensive, I might consider a copy.
It's a copy, and I guess for $4.01 you did ok. But, I'd go visit a coin shop. Most that I've been to, you can buy nice Morgans, though worn, at about the same price you just paid for a copy. The place I visit in Vegas even has a bucket full of CC Morgans all AG for $29.99. I don't think thats too overly expensive for a genuine coin, but we each have our budgets. Guy~
I don't think you can go wrong for $4, if you enjoy the piece as a replica. The important thing is that you enjoy the piece. Where can you buy $4.00 Morgan culls? I will take all of the Morgan Slugs I can possibly buy for $4 each....lol
I wouldn't mind knowing where I can get a bucketful of Morgans (even in AG) for that price. I don't have a single one in my collection.
