Did I just buy an extremely rare Equus Trajani Sestertius?

    Hi all!

I recently bought this sestertius of Trajan. It isn't in very good condition (that's a bit of an understatement), but the reverse definitely appears to be Trajan on horseback, pacing l.

I was surprised to discover that this could be a rare Equus Trajani type (like this: https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/in...ood_in_trajans_forum_rare/168515/Default.aspx)

Are there any other sestertii of Trajan that have a similar reverse that my coin is likely to be, or did I strike it lucky? I think I see an SC below at the base of the reverse, which matches the Equus Trajani type. I know it will be worth almost nothing in the condition it is in - even if it is a rare type - but it'll be pretty cool if it is an Equus Trajani type

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

I believe you are right. I can't recall that Trajan struck any other types with a pacing horse. I wouldn't call this sestertius extremely rare, but it is certainly much rarer that the same type on denarii.
