BAD! Hold the coin by edges!:loud: Fingers do not need to touch the coin.

Now, Its pretty worn(G-4) and may have been cleaned. Obverse has full rims but reverse has partial rim. Don't know on price though. I do more with foreign coins than US.:D But, I think you did pretty good. Nice Buy!:thumb:

Hahah, no i just bought the coin on ebay I know that besides im pretty sure thats a woman's hand, anyway in the Red Book of Coins it has it valued at $25.00, so I don't know how accurate that value is.

OK, I will let you slide for now. For prices I wouldn't rely on the Red Book. The prices are normally too high or too low. IMO in this case too low.

kk good um...what is IMO? and do you think its worth $25 lol

    IMO= In my opinion
$25, probably not... A nice coin, can't go wrong with capped bust silver coinage, in any grade... It is a AG3/G4 coin, and has been cleaned, so I'm saying you got what you paid for.. :)
If you buy off of ebay, like myself, and many other collectors, use the ebay completed listings, that should be your number 1 price guide
And here is my number two price guide for coins
    www.numismedia.com
Just look at the collector coin values... :D

IMO-In My Opinion. Like I said I don't do with US very much(except starting to get into Large Cents) but I would think about $30 or $40.

Edit: I need to get on the ball, I type way too slow for some of you young folks. LOL

O thanks I just bookmarked the site, It says 1831 G4 at $30.00 so maybe it wasn't that bad of a price...is that site graded (like pcgs.com/prices) or for a guide because the problem with the PCGS site is that it only applies to their graded coins.

Numismedia is what I use for my NGC graded coins.... I look at PCGS price guide, and numismedia price guide, before I buy a graded coin...
When it comes to raw, I compare numismedia price, to that of the completed listings
So, I see no problem with using numismedia for raw coins, as long as you don't just base all your coin buying on one price guide

Okay, I also always try to grade down my initial thoughts because I probably overgrade

Exactly! Use many different price guides. And the best price guide is you gut. If you want it and it looks nice and you can afford it, get it.

Grading is just an opinion, and PCGS gets it wrong sometimes...
Go with your gut, and practice WILL make no where close to perfect.. LOL
Grading is something that maybe, can never be mastered, so don't get down about over grading, because WE ALL DO IT :D

It's a cleaned AG-3 and not worth $25 at all. Probably about what you paid for it.

The only reason I think it is G4 is according to the Red Book of Coin Grading scale G-3 is only date legible, bust flat

I don't know about price but I desagree with you on the grade. I think its a G-4 because of the rim. The obverse has a full rim while the reverse may not have a full rim but has quite a bit rim left. But I guess its only my opinion.

For me, a G-4 has to have complete rims on both sides which this coin doesn't. You may disagree with me, but that's just how it goes.

Once again, grading is an opinion guys....
    Not a fact...
And the difference between a 3 and a 4, with this coin, is no biggie... :)

I won't argue whether it's AG or G, but it DEFINITELY has been harshly cleaned. Which should knock a substantial amount off the price IMO. The only way I would have bought it would be maybe at a huge discount. Like 5 or 10 bucks. It's a long ways from an original, G condition coin.

It appears that it's been severely whizzed. The high contrasting dark black (original areas) against the bright silver areas should have set off alarms immediately. Some coins are hard to tell if they've been cleaned. This is one of the easiest to tell IMO.

If you put it back on ebay after you get it, you might get your money back out of it, minus fees. Maybe you wouldn't.
