I was just browsing around the Mint's website and noticed that the Mint Director's page says "The position of Director is currently vacant." and the Past Directors Page lists Moy as serving as Mint Director from September 2006–January 2011. Anyone know what happened?

Yeah, Moy stepped down to take a spot in the private sector... don't ask me why you'd want Moy running your company, but eh...

CT showed Moy the door back in December when the numismatic publications were breaking the story: Moy to resign in January -and- Has the new mint director been appointed yet?

Moy has reportedly taken up temporary position at the B.E.P.:

Yes, he stepped down, as well as the assistant Director is or has already left.

Silly rabbit, Moy's background is diverse amongst administrative departments... Given his previous appointments and private sector work in health care, business and non-profits, he's gonna go fix the health care system now. :D

    Yes he resigned.

Probably due to my constant rants and requests that he do so.

BTW, a good example of Mr. Moys Directorship is reflected in the 2010 Mint Report blaming the 24% loss of mint customers to the lack of 2009 Eagle collector coins.

No reference at all to the rising prices of US Mint products or the abandoning of certain products like the Presidential Dollar Signature Proof coins which would have made a GREAT bookshelf set.

What about those price increases? 2011 ATB Quarter bags went from $34.95 to $49.95??? What the heck? A $15 increase for a quarter that isn;t released to the banks! Talk about holding collectors hostage.................

Bye Bye Mr. Moy. Hope the door didn't hit you in the but on the way out!

The assistant deputy director is also leaving the Mint. He may have already, i'm uncertain . This is all good news for us. We need a Director who can effectively work with the legislature , a point where I feel Ed Moy was ineffectual .

Actually, I think we need a Director that offers some consistency as Moy was habitually inconsistent. Offering a slew of new products which he then cut in the name of trimming the offerings yet on the same token, offering ridiculous "New" products such as those worthless "Circulating America the Beautiful" packages for $9.95 and the "Uncirculated America the Beautiful" packages at $21.95!

What a frigging joke as the coins are, well, not really top dollar offerings!

And, lets not forget about the recent price increases. Silver Proof sets at double melt?

    Sheesh.

At this rate since the US Mints profits go into the "general fund", coin collectors will be the ones shouldering a sizeable portion of the National Debt!

Just one example of the non-sensical actions of his on his way out. I think it was more the economy that affected the decrease in sales. The more casual collectors had more important things to spend their money on. So what is his answer--" lets raise prices and balance the books on our loyal, long time customers!"
Lets just hope the new director has a little more business sense. Or is that too much to ask for a political appointee?

The electronic version of Coin World [2/14/2011] out today, has an article on page 10 which reads, "Richard Peterson, 51, the U.S. Mint's Associate Director of Manufacturing since 2008 was named Deputy Mint Director and Acting Mint Director January 25th by Treasurer of the US Rios." ... "He will replace Moy until Obama nominates a replacement and confirmed by the Senate." The article is brief but goes on to profile Peterson's professional background.

Rosie Rios is now over-seeing the Mint Operations . Both Moy and Brunhart have left the mint employ for private sector positions. I don't believe that her assuming these duties is an actual appointment . Probably we will get someone from left field as Director and Rosie will be promoted to the Assistant Deputy Director position. But that is all speculation on my part. Lots of Political favors going to be pulled , again .
