Anybody know what I might want to do to improve this unsightly-looking little thing? Not necessarily get it "in the pink," so to speak, but you know how it is, had it for 110 years, and you develop a sort of, well, attachment. :) Thanks.

Had it for 110 years? Guess something can be said for modern medicine!

i wouldnt think you would want to try cleaning it.. the rust will have damaged the underlaying surface of the coin (i would think) i might just let the coin keep its character coat :D

Other than using acid or an abrasive  I've never heard of a do-it-yourself method of removing verdigris from copper or bronze. NCS may have some method of doing so, but I really doubt that they could improve your coin sufficiently to justify their charges. :(

    And the jury has spoken...

Mattman, just between you and me, I think I may have overstated that some.

I think you stumbled on it, Daggarjon, "character coat." I definitely like the ring of that over "rust." :)

Thanks, Roy. Not exactly the verdict the good guys were looking for, but, oh well, ya can't win 'em all...

You could give this a try - Biox - won't guarantee it will work though. The coin will still be corroded no matter what you do to it.
