Some very nice coins @PMONNEY These seen to be faked often. My first of this type was a fake which I was able to have refunded. T. CARISIUS ROMAN REPUBLIC AR Denarius OBVERSE: Head of Juno Moneta right, slight drapery REVERSE: Implements for coining money: anvil die with garlanded punch die above; tongs and hammer on either side; all within wreath Rome 46 BC 19mm, 3.49 g Crawford 464/2; CRI 70; Sydenham 982a; Carisia 1a
Wow, @PMONNEY! Those are both fantastic!! The Carisius is hard to find in such relatively good condition and strike. The Valerian's Vulcan reverse is awesome-- I want one!
Above is the most commonly see fake of this type. It is distinguished by the obverse centering and the edge nick at the left but it is always possible that a fake could be chipped up on the edges to conceil these characteristics. I bought the one above several years ago and was refunded by a dealer who since learned of the problem.
It does seem that this type suffered poor wormanship more than most coins of Valerian. The example shown by PMONNEY is very nice for these.
