Just got the replacement for my damaged 1881-S Morgan.
It's only MS-63 BUT it's in an OGH AND the surfaces look very reflective.
So my first question was, "Is it PL?"
And my second question was, "How do I find out?"
Did a Google search to see what sort of definition I could come up with.
I haven't tried it yet, but take a look at this site:

    http://www.coingrading.com/plcoins1.html

I should be able to try it out tomorrow.

What they do not explain on the web site is the distances for each designation. You should be able to clearly read reflected text in the coin at -

    PCGS standards -
    2-3 inches - Proof Like

4-6 inches - Deep Mirror Proof Like

    NGC standards -
    4-6 inches - Proof Like

6-8 inches - Deep Mirror Proof Like

I knew there was something like this.
I didn't know the specifics AND I didn't know NGC and PCGS didn't agree.

Anyway, I tried it and at best my coin was "Satin-like".
Of course the fact that the coin was in a slab might have thrown the results off.

I wasn't aware if this...and it's good to know. So, basically...a coin that NGC grades PL could be a DMPL by PCGS standards.

    I don't think so.
