I've got a handful of the 40g metal silica gel containers...that turn from blue to pink. The instructions say 300 degrees for 3 hours to dry them out. My question is, if I toss them in the oven while I'm baking some food in there, am I going to poison myself? Are there any harmful chemicals that could be released from the canisters in the oven? I hate to waste power and just have them in there alone...I'd rather accomplish two things at once. Thanks.
I've never tried it but some say a piece of charcoal wrapped in a napkin will do the trick as well. I know in the early days 1600-1815 (or so) of Naval Gunnery they would keep the powder dry by using a similar method but to a larger scale. Take Care Ben
Maybe it would be like that Simpsons episode where Homer ate the baking soda that had been in the back of the fridge forever. All my food would taste like coins, paper money, guns and the inside of my safe. :eat:
They only absorb moisture. Of course if there were polutants in that moisture, in the oven those too will be released. A little Sulfur in your diet may give you something you really don't want. Play it safe and do it separately. Just out of curiousness, why not switch to an electrical dehumidifier. No need to constantly change anything if you add a hose and let it drain somewhere.
hahaha uhhh oohhhh I do this all the time whenever I make something over 15 mins, I throw them in there for a little charge. It never hurt me. Hahahaha I can even remember one year I threw them in there with the thanksgiving TURKEY!!
Because my safe is only 3.8 cubic feet. Not enough room for much else besides these little canisters.
if something happens to him and his ghost comes looking for you let me know. I know a medium who may be able to help you
Cooking food also creates moisture. Anyone every open the oven and get a blast of steam in your face and if you wear glasses it fog's them? Baking silica containers with food could be like treading water. And if I put them with the Thanksgiving turkey like spider did the misses would kick me and my coin collection out of the house.
