Desert patina

    Constantius II, took forever to get pics of this, and they still arent the best.

    The Constantius II photo is nice. I always liked the contrasts on this Maximianus.

    Nice coins !
    The best example of desert patina in my entire collection would be this one :

    1.75 gr, 16 mm

    That actually came out of a group of uncleaned coins looking exactly like that.

    Those are nice coins guys - the sand patina makes them very appealing.

    Unfortunately I cannot contribute a picture. My only sand-patina coin, a sestertius of Nero with Roma Seated turned out to be a fake.

    Sand-patina coins are very appealing, as your examples show. In this respect it is no surprise that some people have developed techniques to artificially add sand to the patina of ancient coins. This is added at the last stage of the patination process, according to what I have read. There are no limits to human ingenuity.......

    Thanks, yeah its my photo :) I tried a white background :( lol, gona try black eventualy. They're still not as clear as I'd like, still messing around with my set up.
