I totally agree!
To me, such handling would never add beauty to the original!
But you can see a lot of such coins in US.

 

Yeah, in the US you see alot of places selling US state quarters and Silver Eagles and all sorts of other coins, new and old, with that 'artwork' on them. I guess some people fancy it.... likely people who are not coin collectors.
