Hi folks, Is there any significant premium on those hoard coins? I could buy a NGC graded MS64 Double Eagle of 1904. Price is around 1500 Dollars. Thanks for input. Best regards
Practically a majority of gold coins from the early 20th century USA are "hoard" coins in some form or another. Many of them were sent to Europe in the 1920s by wealthier depositors who correctly forecast what was on the horizon.
If the same year and mint mark were hoarded then you would have a lot in the same grade, give or take a grade. Therefore, no premium as too many exist in that grade.
That is not a bad price for a 64. Recent auctions show $1650 (July) as the low and $2100+ for the high. Depending on the look of the coin $1500 would be a good price now. I have been bidding on these and trying to stay around $1500. I have not won a single auction yet.
Let's see? I have 18,000 Westward Journey nickels. Maybe I should submit all of them and request that the name, Bidiot Hoard, be included on the insert. I could sell them for $75 each. Chris
You'd need an appropriate graphic for the label. How about a picture of a studious-looking collector at a computer with a drink in one hand and a mouse in the other.
Now you've made me stop and think, John! How about a guy at a live auction using two different bid numbers? Chris
Executing a variation on the "Statue of Liberty" bid by standing up in front of the room with a raised bid paddle in each hand. The "Ramp Marshal" bid.
