    Last year of issue so mintage figures may not represent those numbers actually released into circulation?

    They must not have released many into circulation. There is only 1 sale showing on eBay and it sold for $64.50.

    This is a possible explanation. Krause has this coin at $95 in XF. The 1946 date has about 1/3 the mintage and list for $2.50 in Krause.

    edit: The OP coin is in XF to AU based on the photo. It likely would sell for $45 to $65 on a good day. The eBay sale price is probably top dollar IMO. Congrats on a nice coin.
