Bought this a few months ago, it has great color. Much less hazy looking in hand, with blues in the periphery on the reverse. I got it at a good price, what I would pay for a MS64 CAC without the color. Please share your thoughts on this piece!
That is one of the perks of having YN friends living in California. They have access to quality coins one could never find in rural Maine.
It looks like cotton candy - I saw it, and took a chance. If I didn't buy it, it wouldn't have lasted long.
I have uploaded a number of photos of my current inventory and some of my favorite sold items on my graded coins album on my profile.
After watching a video with John Albanese talk about why a group of toned coins did not receive CAC stickers, I have a new appreciation for the ones that do get them. Some believe CAC is too harsh on toned coins and deny a lot of stickers for them. The reason being is they are only evaluating the actual grade of the coin. Some go through there that they really like with great toning but if it's a MS63 in their view and it got a grade bump to a 64 most likely due to attractive toning, they will NOT CAC sticker it. So in other words there's been a lot of disappointed people over the years.
I agree - it isn't that John Albanese doesn't understand toning, it's just that CAC does not get as excited over color as much as the collector base is.
Your Morgan has a remarkable skin on it, it appears. I'd very much like to see a non-TV pic or two if that's possible. Beautiful coin at any rate.
Nice coin! It will have a bit of a toning premium (color isn't quite there for a significant premium but a good buy at normal 64 CAC prices).
That's not always the case; CAC has been known to give the sticker to some toners that got a color bump. Here is a good example (you can see how surprised most were in the thread): https://www.cointalk.com/threads/guess-the-grade-morgan-toner.344695/
