Deleted grade versus no coin found at NGC certification verification?

I was looking at pics of some NGC-certified goloid pattern dollars on the Heritage website and checking cert. nos. Got strange results on a couple.

Checked the cert. no. (1852118-011) from a picture of one NGC slab. Cert. no. is valid, but there are no pics and there is a message of "Grade: DELETED". I'm assuming coin was cracked out by owner or crossed at a another service, and owner sent old label back to NGC. Or coin was regraded and re-slabbed at NGC.

However, when the cert. no. on another slab (5067423-001) was checked, the message, "No coin was found matching that certification number" appears. Assuming the slab wasn't a fake, what is the difference between this message and that for the first slab?

It could be as innocuous as the person doing the keystrokes to change the database choosing the wrong reason for the alteration. "Grade deleted" might be supposed to be only an internal code, not meant to face the public.

Thanks for the replies. I'm guessing both problems are glitches at NGC. The pictures of the slabs on the Heritage website are quite clear. The second coin has been very good to Heritage; they've sold it four times. Latest, was Sep-2015. For each sale, there is a picture of the slab with the same cert. no. that the NGC website says is invalid.

You see that a lot there, coins obviously just being repeatedly tried and failed upon by dealers. Hope springs eternal in the human breast. :)

The coin sold four times at the largest auction house. That means in addition to the catalogers, there were four sellers, four buyers, and lots of lookers and bidders. So, how come no one checked the cert. no.? But maybe they did, and the glitch at NGC occurred very recently.

I have a coin that is not showing up with any pics and the grade is showing as DELETED though it has a grade clearly on the label.

    Should I contact NGC ?

Yes; contacting NGC is your best option (including a photo of your slab-both sides-would likely help as well).

Good News !!! I contacted NGC last night and heard back from them today. They inserted the grade for the coin and now it registers properly on the certification lookup.

I will next be telling them about my MS63 Saint and asking that it be listed as MS67. :D

    Thanks for your help, ddddd.
