    Looks to be silver. Has a hiding sad looking sun behind mountains. The edge has a circles and squares around it with the centers squared out and the circles doted out. Interesting design. I have not noticed that before. I will try and get a pic.

    Little bit of its history LOL

    The Republic of Central America (officially the "Greater Republic of Central America
    was an attempt to unite the Central American countries of Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador into a single state, lasting from 1896 to 1898

    As you can see it did not last long and it was not the 1st attempt.

    Nice coin. I don't know much about the series, but they have been selling pretty well recently.NG mintmark indicates Guatemala mint.

    Central American Republic.

    Steve,the Central American Republic was actually established in 1824,but by 1838,it was embroiled in a civil war that broke up the republic.

    That edge is known as colonial "circle-and-rectangle" design and was used on milled portrait coinage of Spanish colonies.
