Hi All, Well after restarting my coin collection after years away from it, I have collected some different types of commeratives and coins in general. But I have to say I am captivated and drawn to the Deep Cameo Strike on coins. It seems to be done at the San Francisco mint because I have the S mark on all the coins I own with the deep cameo strike. This strike looks amazing on the lincoln pennies and the Jefferson Nickels. I do have a few other coins that have different strikes but nothing IMO compares to the deep cameo strike. What do you all think?
That's because the proofs are only made in San Fransisco since 64. with the exception of ASE's and AGE's
The Franklin Half Dollar and the 1885 Morgan Dollar are proof manufacture with the cameo affect on the devices. This 1880 Morgan is an S mint coin that is a business strike having proof like characteristics. This is not a proof manufacture. Just want to make sure everyone understands the difference between proof manufacture & business strikes.
John - While I understand what you are saying it also important for you to understand that quality of strike has nothing to do with whether or not a coin is deep cameo or not. A Proof coin can be fully struck and yet have no trace of cameo on it at all, let alone be a deep cameo. This is especially true with all Proofs issued before 1973. From 1973 and after, it is going to be pretty unusual, downright rare even, to find a Proof that is not cameo or deep cameo. But before 1973 they are few and far between.
