I can understand the numeric grading standard but could someone educated what constitutes a "Deep Cameo" for a proof coin. How can the average Joe determine if its Deep Cameo? If you had pictures of a normal vs Deep Cameo AGE that might help? Thanks in advance.
You know what frost on the grass or your windshield looks like on a cold fall morning ? Well, that's kinda what the cameo effect looks like on a Proof coin, the ones that have it anyway - not all older ones do. But it's only on the devices, not the fields. You can see all the pictures you want here - https://www.google.com/search?hl=en...0.0....0...1ac.1.42.img..0.16.813.iZKZR667cjY
Spirityoda thanks for the pictures. Do most people like the Deep Cameo? I am torn. I like the detail of the regular proof but the Deep Cameo really jumps off the screen. Is the Deep Cameo the intended look and over time the die wears down or is it the opposite?
Cameo's hold a premium until around 1973, they are more rare the further back you go. Now here is the kicker, the SMS years (65-67), there were no proofs then and so Cameo and Deep Cameo coins demand a very large premium. For example a 64 AH Kennedy would probably be worth double in the same grade if DCAM. A 65 Kennedy in DCAM is a $3K half dollar if not more. Here is a better way to see the difference..
those pics are not mine. I just used them as an example. deep cameo is very preffered and much more expensive for certain coins. i.e. franklins.
But yoda, both of those coins you posted are cameo, I suspect both are even deep cameo. Do they look different ? Yeah sure, but that's because of the dates.
