This will be the 8th consecutive year that I have attended the FUN Show. The nice part is that my NGC membership renews in November, so I always have my 5 free submissions to turn in at the show. At least it saves me $25 or so having to ship the coins the 100 miles up the coast. This year (January, 2012) NGC will be offering their Onsite Grading Special for Morgan and Peace Dollars @ $30 each with a minimum of 5 coins, so I'll be taking along some GSA CC's to submit. Getting them graded and back in 24 hours? You can't beat that! By the way, I already checked with NGC, and I can't use the freebie certificate with the Morgans even though the cost is the same. So, that leaves me trying to decide what to submit. I have 20 of the Brown Ikes that my parents gave me in the 70's, and I thought it might be nice to submit them for sentimental reasons. Obviously, they wouldn't be worth submitting, otherwise. The problem is that the free certificate is for EarlyBird service, and since I would like to have the cert #'s consecutive, it would cost me $450 for the remaining 15 of them to go on the same submission form. But, if I submit them under the Modern tier, the whole lot of 20 would only cost $280. So, now I'm back to "square one" trying to decide what to submit with the certificate. I haven't been searching any Mint bags & rolls lately for my collection of MS68 Sac's, so that's not an option. I have a few raw Classic Commems, but they're not worth having graded either. (No sentimental attachment there.) My ANA Convention 3-Medal Sets were submitted last year. I have a few SCD's, but I want to keep them raw. I have some 2005 Satin Sets that I know will grade 70's, but I don't collect the satins. Maybe I should pull out 5 of the Kennedy's, submit them for the 70's and use them to trade for some of the Sac's I need? I'm starting to get a headache! Chris
It's nice to save $25 on shipping but I wouldn't waste the submissions. You'll want them later in the year for truly worthy coins, don't you think? Have fun at FUN! I'm going to miss it again as the missus and I will be taking a month-long vacation far away. Lance.
Easy...pick out the 5 best brown Ikes (perhaps one from each year or focus on 1973 and submit). Have fun at FUN! TC
