http://www.ebay.com/itm/321181898026?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 Scary to think how much money this is going to go for.
He never directly states it is a replica. Although, there are several inferences in his description. It's unfortunate that some people are still going to bid on it thinking it's authentic. I bet it goes for close to 1000.00
Look under "Item specifics" (above the description)... Let's say that his listing is willingly unclear
From the listing: "this is not cheap copy" All I could think is that it definitely is not going for the price a cheap copy should.
Assuming proper silver at current rates, melt would be about $30. I'm not sure how to value a replica but there obviously is a market for these considering the number of different ones we see. Antiquanova replicas sell new for $150 and they are not the best of style. I would not be surprised if this fake would sell close to $100 without the deceptive listing. I also suspect that someone will buy it and try to resell it with more deceptive language for a profit. The number of people with more money than sense is what is scary. If I were buying something worth $10-50k, I would consider using a real high reputation dealer. Silly me. Since the chances of finding a real one of these for this price has worse odds than the lottery I might suggest buying a (few?) hundred lottery tickets and buying the coin with your millions in winnings. Either method has about equal chances of success.
This is a coin, one of not very many, that I would never think of owning unless it came directly from a eell respected dealer or, (I know, shoot me), in a ngc slab. Way, way too many fakes have been made for too long to trust my own judgment on such a coin. To me its the same as a 1916 d dime, too many good fakes to trust a coin without a true expert's opinion.
I know, I know. Basically to me a NGC slab is a permanent David Vagi flip. I have always respected Mr Vagi for his expertise, I simply disagree with a coin being sealed away and them using US grading scales for ancients. I might bust the coin out, but buying a coin like this in an NGC slab would make me as comfortable as buying it from CNG or other well known dealers.
This thing was given to me a couple weeks ago. It may be sacrilegious to post it in the same thread as Ancient Joe's incredible coin. (Sorry Mr. Joe).
Can't afford it, I don't look for it. If I can afford it it's fake and probably a bad one. Excuse me while I print out AJ's coin and hang it up in my man cave. Pretending like its mine.
Owning coins like AJ's is my goal. In the meantime, I have to be satisfied with the best I can afford. BTW, I'm glad to be back home (just in case anyone missed me).
